From Robert Lois Stevenson’s Treasure Island novel published back in 1883 right up to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie series 2003-2007, the subject and legend of pirates has captivated children and adults alike. Lego’s latest pirates range is already proving to be hugely popular and when you look at some of the sets available it’s easy to understand why. Models include large pirate ships, fortresses and secret hideouts. And prices range from a few pounds for smaller sets, right up to fifty pounds for some of the bigger play sets.

LEGO 6243: Brickbeard's Bounty - this impressive pirate ship is definitely one the highlights of the pirates range. The ship is 56cm in length and over 44cm tall! It’s many features include three firing cannons, removable quarters, plank and large fabric sails. Minifigures include two soldiers, four pirates, mermaid and a monkey. The set also includes a small rowing boat and deadly shark!
LEGO 6242: Soldiers' Fort - this soldiers' base is the perfect place to keep captured pirates locked up! It contains 367 pieces and the completed model stands 17cm high and 30cm long. Notable features include a firing cannon, working winch and many accessories including a treasure chest, rowing boat, crocodile and palm tree. The fort also comes with four soldiers and two pirate minifigures.
LEGO 6253: Shipwreck Hideout - this pirate hideaway constructed from the remains of a wrecked pirate ship is the perfect place for the pirates to store their stolen treasure! The hideout has a firing cannon, swinging bridge, crows nest lookout post and secret traps! The set also includes three pirates, one pirate skeleton, two soldiers, treasure chest and a small rowing boat.
