About The Lego City Cargo Train

The Lego City Cargo Train Deluxe is a nice alternative to the Lego City Passenger Train, it does cost around £30 more than the Passenger Train Set but you do get more accessories and track for your money.

The set comprises of a green electric cargo locomotive with two cabs, working headlights and horn. It pulls four wagons, which when all attached together (via magnetic couplings) measures 92cm long. The four wagons are all different, there's a box wagon with large opening doors, flatbed wagon, hopper style wagon and probably the most impressive, a crane wagon which can be used to load and unload cargo. The train has six different speeds and is operated via an infrared remote controller so there are no trailing wires, and you can move around with the controller.

Besides the main train and wagons you also get three vehicles - a flat bed truck complete with cargo, a fork lift truck to load and unload the wagons, and a small red sports car that can be loaded onto the flatbed wagon using the crane. The set also comes with five minifigures - four general rail workers (with different outfits) and most importantly, a train driver.

The completed track layout measures 145cm by 84cm and is made up of twenty curved pieces, eight straight pieces and two swithching pieces (points). There is the opportunity to produce other layouts than the default loop but unless extra track packs are purchased you are slightly limited.

As a stand alone set there's enough included to provide plenty of enjoyment, though it will really come into it's own when combined with other Lego City models.

The Cargo Train Deluxe requires 9 AA batteries (not included) and is recommended for ages 6 and upwards.
